Identifier: Mean Value Theorem
Sometimes the language of the problem will use the specific words, “Mean Value Theorem”.
- “Find the value that the Mean Value Theorem guarantees.”
Often times you will find yourself needing to apply it to a word problem. In word problems you will generally see them giving you two end points described as moments in time, and then asking you about a rate of change that must happen at some time between those two end points.
- At 10am the temperature was 5 degrees Fahrenheit and at 2pm it was 13 degrees Fahrenheit. Show that at some point the temperature was changing at a rate of 2 degrees Fahrenheit per hour.
