  • The language of the problem directly asks you to find the global extrema, absolute extrema, a global max, a global min, an absolute max, or an absolute min.
  • Most of the time these questions will include a closed x-interval to work from some [a,b]. While you can see a closed interval on some local extrema problems, it is much, much more common to see them associated with absolute extrema problems.
