f(x) = y-values of f(x)

Meaning: f ( x )

The original function provides us y-value information. The position of the graph.

f ( x ) = positive  ( + ) = positive y value

f ( x ) = negative  ( ) = negative y value

f ( x ) = zero  ( 0 ) = zero y value

Note: The f ( x ) graph is normally the starting point to determine the other graphs. It is important to remember what it means when the information about it is provided to you because you might be given the information so you know where to position your sketch of it.
