What is a Derivative?
The 5 Main Derivative Rules

1 of 2

Identifier: Derivative of Constants

  • You have a number alone with no variable in its term.

y = 5   , y = 5 x 13   , y = x 2 + 15 13   , y = 5 , 000 , 000 , 000

  • You are told a parameter of your equation is a constant.

Sometimes you will see them state in the description of a problem that certain parameters are constants (i.e., “treat k, b, and w as constants). They are doing that because they want to leave out a real number for the parameter, but still want you to find the derivative of the equation.

y = b   , y = 5 x k   , y = x 2 + w   , y = C
